Houston’s Most Realistic Self-Defense and Tactical Medicine Training
When the dust settled after three days of intense, hands-on training just outside Houston, one thing was clear: Sheepdog: Sentinel was a full-spectrum transformation that equipped ordinary individuals with the skills, confidence, and understanding needed to protect life under pressure.
The weekend combined Krav Maga-based combatives, point shooting, edged weapons training, and tactical trauma care into a single, immersive experience. It was gritty. It was real. And it delivered results.
“I signed up for this course because I was tired of feeling unsure and unprepared if I ever found myself in a situation where I needed to defend myself or respond to a medical emergency. The idea of using a handgun made me nervous, and I knew that fear would only grow if I didn’t address it directly. I wanted to build real, usable skills instead of vague theoretical knowledge.” —Bill C.
Led by Krav Maga Houston Chief Instructor, and Deputy Chief Instructor of Krav Maga Worldwide, CJ Kirk, and former Naval Special Warfare operators, the Sentinel course stripped away theory and forced students to train like it matters.
Every rep was functional.
Every evolution built toward the moment you might face in real life the moment everything depends on what you’ve trained.
The majority of the students began the course with feelings of uncertainty. Some were anxious about handling firearms, while others felt insecure about their ability to handle medical emergencies. But, by the last day, these students had transformed into composed, and capable individuals, fully aware of how to respond effectively in worst-case scenarios. It was AWESOME!
“What surprised me the most about myself during this course was how quickly I picked up the information and skills, especially in point shooting. As someone who has only gone to the indoor gun range once, I was nervous and hesitant because I was the newbie/least-experienced of the group. With an open mind, curiosity to learn, and support from everyone there, I was able to make huge strides in my confidence (I felt like an absolute bad*ss) and have a new fire instilled in me to do more.” —Elizabeth M.
The firearms portion of the course deals with point shooting protocols that are most effective under stress (GRRPPPF – If you know you know!). The shooting system gave even beginners the ability to draw and fire under pressure with confidence and control.
The trauma care training (using the MARCHH sequence) was hands-on and high stress, with reps under time and fatigue.
“The skill that had the biggest impact on me was the TCCC “scan” system procedure and priorities (MARCHH) because it taught me to have a home base for assessing, prioritization and potentially lifesaving treatment which allowed me to perform even under stress.” —Bill Hall
Honestly, we had some of the best feedback that we have ever received from a course – in large part because the training was so personal for the participants. People opened up. They pushed one another. They encouraged each other. And in the process, they forged something more than skill, they found purpose.
“The moment that shifted my perspective in the course was when…I actually experienced significant (and truly physical) tunnel vision during the final evolution on Sunday morning. This not only served as a genuinely visceral example that physiological tunnel vision is REAL under moments of great stress, it also proved that training helps to mitigate it. I did not experience this in the shooting (opening portion) of the evolution – a series of skills that I have trained and drilled since the first GZTac class I took a couple years ago.
Now, multiple times in my life I have attempted meditation and/or breathwork using videos, apps, books, CDs etc and NEVER managed to accomplish anything with it that felt impactful or that made me want to continue trying it. That all changed on Saturday morning. For about 3 minutes towards the end of the breathwork I actually felt myself “get out of my own head” and shrink into nothing but the environment that surrounded us. I have been searching for a non-chemical way to get out of my own head for a very long time and finally achieved this that morning.” —Chris V.
“The skill that had the biggest impact on me was the point-and-shoot handgun method, because it taught me that I could draw and fire confidently and effectively under pressure. This approach simplified the shooting mechanics and made me feel capable of defending myself if I ever truly had to. It also directly addressed my fear of handguns by focusing on controlled repetition and safety.” —Bill C.
If you’re in Houston and searching for real self-defense training, tactical trauma care courses, or close-range handgun defense, you simply need to be here!

“If someone’s on the fence about taking this course, I would tell them this Sheepdog course can help save yours and others lives. Personal defense and Trauma Medicine can protect family, friends, and neighbors.” —Hank W.
“If someone’s on the fence about taking this course, I would tell them..Get off the effen fence already and do it! If you’re sitting on the fence, that means you’re already thinking about doing it. That means that you WILL come away with a new set of skills and education to add to your training and practice schedule and you WILL be on your way to becoming a Sheepdog (which we could always use more of in the world).” —Chris V.
